At Best
I work with old, unwanted quilts, transforming them by immersing them in melted encaustic. As they are lifted from the liquid, I reshape them while they cool and harden. The act of redeeming salvaged forms and holding them in a moment of restoration is deeply empowering. The dejected materials I use carry stories connected to my own.
Through their re-creation, I feel both heard and protected, while the objects speak their specific histories as metaphors for mine. In this symbiotic process, I give them voice, and in return, they speak for me. These works are physical manifestations of the hope of transformation, allowing me to confront the injustices and inequities I experience and witness in the world. In their renewed state, the artworks extend into a shared space with the viewer, inviting engagement and reflection on the process of redemption.
